FIA confirm procedure if Lando Norris wins title at Qatar Grand Prix
30th November 2025The FIA has confirmed the post-race procedure if McLaren’s Lando Norris wins the Drivers’ championship at the Qatar Grand Prix.

Going into the penultimate round of the F1 world championship, at the Qatar GP, there was a possibility that Lando Norris would secure his maiden world title this weekend.
Heading into the weekend, Norris was ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by 24 points, following McLaren’s double disqualification in Las Vegas last weekend.
As per the circumstances, the FIA have now released the post-race procedure in the event that Norris takes his maiden title after Sunday’s race.
In the report, the FIA confirmed that Norris would stop in front of the screen in parc ferme, where he would find the champion board, and he would be required to take part in the post-race interviews even if he finishes outside the top three.
Additionally, a ‘FIA Champion’s Press Conference’ will be held after the TV Pen.
How can Norris seal the title?
In Saturday’s sprint race, Piastri cut down Norris’ advantage to 22 points as the two McLarens finished 1-3, whilst Verstappen finished behind Norris in fourth.
This means that Norris will need to score four more points over Piastri at the Qatar GP to beat his teammate, who spent most of the season leading the championship.
Additionally, as Verstappen remains within championship contention, the #4 McLaren would need to finish anywhere ahead of the #1 Red Bull to knock the Dutchman out of championship contention.
So, for Norris to take the title with one race to go, in Abu Dhabi, the Briton would need to sit 26 points ahead of Piastri and needs to finish anywhere in front of Verstappen.
The Qatar Grand Prix will get underway at 7pm local time (4pm GMT), with 57 laps to race.
