The championship leader of the WRC2 class, Andreas Mikkelsen leads the opening stage of the weekend to bolster his championship chances.

Mikkelsen, in his Toksport Skoda Fabia Rally2 contender, led the WRC 2 class as he attacked the brand new, Athens-based, 1.48km EKO Super Special Stage with fury and precision.

The Norwegian was the fourth driver to head out onto the stage, ahead of the Greek drivers such as Lambros Athanasoulas and Alexandros Tsouloftas. Despite the early run, Mikkelsen quickly set the benchmark to beat with a 1:35.0 and sat in ninth on the overall timing board but first overall in his class.

Skoda’s duo Nikolay Gryazin and Marco Bulacia rounded out the top three of WRC 2 in second and third respectively, but 10th and 11th in the overall order.

Toyota’s WRC driver, Elfyn Evans split the WRC2 class as the Welshman finished the first official day in 12th, 2.8 seconds off the pace of the overall leader – and teammate – Kalle Rovanpera.

With his Rally2 Ford Fiesta, France’s Adrien Fourmaux sat best of the rest in fourth of his respective class, one-tenth ahead of Kajetan Kajetanowicz and – WRC2 championship contender – Yohan Rossel who finished fifth and sixth.

Oliver Solberg, Lauri Joona, Gus Greensmith and Gregoire Munster rounded out the top 10 inside the WRC2 category in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th respectively.

Five stages line up the second official day of running, starting at 08:23am local time for SS2: Loutraki 1, completing a total of 101.98km of action across the Greek terrain.

That’s all for the article; Mikkelsen leads WRC2 after opening solo stage in Rally Greece!

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
