Alonso slapped with 10 second penalty for serving penalty incorrectly

Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso has been slapped with a 10-second penalty for failing to serve a five-second penalty correctly.

After a review from the FIA Race Control, Alonso was handed a 10-second time penalty for incorrectly serving his penalty. In turn, Mercedes’ George Russell has secured the German outfit their first podium finish of 2023.

Following the review from race control, Alonso’s initial five-second time penalty was served incorrectly as the rear jack had made contact with the two-time world champion’s AMR23.

This indicated that the Spaniard’s penalty was served incorrectly.

At the start of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Alonso was found to be just outside his grid box and was quickly slapped with a five-second time penalty which was to be served when he made his mandatory stop.

When the safety car was deployed after Alonso’s teammate, Lance Stroll, retired from the race the Spaniard quickly jumped into the pit lane, to complete his stop and to serve his penalty.

His team patiently waited for the penalty to be served before they worked on the car. However, the rear jackman had got his jack into position ready to lift the car up once the penalty had been served.

Following the 10-second penalty, it means Alonso’s 100th podium has been stripped away and he now drops in between the two Mercedes of Russell (third) and Lewis Hamilton (fifth).

That’s all for the article; Alonso slapped with 10 second penalty for serving penalty incorrectly!
