ABT Cupra XE Confirm Andersson and Al-Attiyah for Extreme E season 3
31st January 2023 0 By Kamron KentABT Cupra XE have confirmed their driver line-up for the third season of Extreme E with Klara Andersson returning alongside, five-time Dakar Rally winner, Nasser Al-Attiyah.
ABT Cupra have retained Andersson for a full-time stint at the team ahead of the third season, after two impressive performances when she stepped in for Jutta Kleinschmidt. In both events, Andersson secured a podium finish on her debut in Chile and later secured the teams maiden win at the season finale at Uruguay.
In a similar fashion, the team have also managed to snatch up Al-Attiyah who recently secured a grueling win at the 2023 edition of the Dakar Rally, this month, to defend his 2022 title.
Speaking about full-time seat, Andersson said:
“I am super excited to join ABT CUPRA XE for the full Extreme E season in 2023.
“It is an amazing team – I have done two races already for ABT CUPRA XE stepping in for Jutta, and those went very well. I am extremely excited to join full-time and race alongside Nasser again. He’s an amazing driver and person overall, and so I am really happy to continue the momentum that we got last year in Chile and Uruguay.
“We want to fight for the Extreme E title. That’s what every team wants and we will do our best to perform as well as we can.”
Ahead of the third season of running, ABT will be hoping their Odyssey 21 will turn heads as they join the grid.
Their championship contender relays a similar resemblance to their UrbanRebel, a livery design which has been imported into different categories such as the team’s Gen3 Formula E car and their Cupra e-Racer.
In the livery the car retains a dark primary colour, combining a dark purple colour with neon yellow. The purple colour covers the car as the neon yellow surrounds the chassis in a tight, dotted fashion.
Ahead of the sports third season Xavi Serra, Head of CUPRA Racing, said:
“Our second season saw us make serious progress in terms of understanding how we work best as a team. We ended the season with a run of strong results, and we’re keen to build on that.
“Our goals are clear: We are here to fight for the titles.
“Adding Klara to the team provides race win experience, and I can’t wait to see both her and Nasser out competing once more.”
After the teams second season in the sport, they managed to secure a sixth-place finish in the team standings with 46 points to their name – 40 points off eventual winners X44.
Following Andersson’s performance, the team are focused on improving their standings in the sport with a target of achieving more podiums across its third Extreme E campaign.
