Logan Sargeant SHOULD be racing at Williams next season
20th November 2022While it is not official – yet – Logan Sargeant has built up enough points to be eligible for a super licence which will allow the American driver to progress into Formula 1.
Ahead of the US Grand Prix, Williams’ CEO, Jost Capito, confirmed that Sargeant will race for Williams in 2023, alongside Alexander Albon – replacing Nicholas Latifi.
However, there was a fairly sizeable catch; Sargeant had to obtain super licence.
When the announcement was made, the American driver was without a super licence which is needed to obtain a seat in F1.
As a result, the team opted to run Sargeant in FP1 in the US, Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi in a bid to build up one-point towards the licence – granted he goes a total distance of 100km within the session.
In addition to the FP1 appearances, the American driver had to finish the F2 season seventh in the drivers standings as a minimum.
The 21-year-old secured a fifth-place finish in the Abu Dhabi Feature Race, in the F2 season finale, which was enough to seal fourth in the championship.
After collecting a fourth place finish in F2, bonus points for FP1 appearances and a clean driving record, Sargeant has done enough to secure the 40-point requirement for a super licence.
As such, Sargeant’s place in F1 is assured.
While there remains no confirmation, as of yet, it is expected that Williams will make the announcement soon.
That’s it for the article; Logan Sargeant SHOULD be racing at Williams next season!
