How second practice unfolded…
The cars began to filter out onto the Italian circuit, Autodromo Nazionale Monza, as the pit exit light went green. After the first 10 minutes, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen topped the timing board with a 1:22.303, 0.004 seconds faster than his championship rival – Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, and Carlos Sainz (+0.180).

McLaren’s Lando Norris made an appearance in the top three with the third fastest lap, half a second off the pace.
A red flag was soon brought out as Haas’ Mick Schumacher suffered a mechanical issue at the halfway mark of the session. As the young German entered the second chicane, on the circuit, and suggested the engine had seized. Schumacher was soon ordered to pull of to the side of the circuit.

As the session came to a stop, after its one-hour allotted time, Alpha Tauri’s Yuki Tsunoda was put under investigation by race control for failing to slow down under yellow flags.
The Japanese driver was found to have failed to slow down, under yellow flags, and was given a three-place grid drop – alongside his 10-place grid penalty for exceeding the reprimand allowance, in addition to two penalty points on his super licence (eight in total over 12 months).
