Gen3 Formula E car revealed
28th April 2022Formula E prepares to go racing in Monaco this weekend, but it has just revealed their newest generation of race car: Gen3.
The Gen3 race car has been designed in a way that optimises performance on street tracks. It reported to be the fastest, lightest and most powerful race car FE have ever built.
It will make it’s debut in the ninth season of the FE championship.
It is expected to reach around 200mph/322kph from its 470bhp power unit. Which is benefitted with efficiency in braking and power. 40% of the power used, in race conditions, will be produced from regenerative braking. It’s power unit will be 95% more efficient in producing 350kW of power, compared to 40% from an internal combustion engine.
The Gen3 has also included a brand new innovation, for Formula cars, to provide front and rear powertrains. The front will provide 250kW of power while the rears will deliver 350kW. This doubles the regenerative capability of the current cars, at 600kW. As a result, these cars will also have ultra-high speed charging capabilities to help gain additional energy in a race.
In addition to the powertrains, the new car will not come with rear hydraulic brakes.
With regards to sustainability, Gen3 has one of the most advanced and sustainable batteries ever used, made by sustainable materials and promised to be recycled after its life.
For the construction of its body work, the new generation will use a mixture of linen and recycled carbon fiber. After recycling carbon fiber from the retired Gen2 cars, it will reduce the sports carbon footprint by more than 10% – which has been taken into account during its design phase.
While the next-gen tyres will be made up of 26% natural rubbers and recycled fibers.
Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
