WRC 2022 Rallye Monte-Carlo: Day Two

Sebastian Loeb, M-Sport Ford, topped the overall standings in the second day of the WRC’s Rallye Monte-Carlo showcasing he still has what it takes!
How the morning’s action unfolded…
In the first stage of the day, Ford took a crushing blow as Adrien Fourmaux crashed out. The Frenchman carried too much speed going into a left-hand turn, on the rally’s third stage, and understeered into a bank. This caused the Ford Puma Rally1 car to tumble down a following ravine.
This was the first major test of the WRC’s new safety regulations as the car was heavily damaged after it came to a stop. Fortunately, Fourmaux and his co-driver, Alexandre Coria, were okay and out of the car.
Despite a fantastic start to the season, the part-time defending champion, Toyota’s Sebastian Ogier, would have hoped for a better start to his second day of the WRC 2022 season.
The eight-time world champion lost grip around a right-hander and bounced his Toyota Yaris off the opposing guardrail, on the same stage as Fourmaux’s crash. Fortunately, Ogier only suffered cosmetic damage.
But, this allowed Loeb to make up ground and overtake the lead of the rally while Toyota’s Elfyn Evans climbed up to second in the overall standings.

How the afternoon’s action unfolded…
While Loeb remained at the top of the rally standings, Ogier regained his composure and drove with fury as he tried to cut the deficit down. By the end of the day, he had exchanged places with Evans (in second) with Loeb still on top.
One Ford and two Toyota’s made up the podium positions by the end of the day. On the other hand, Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville occupied the title: best of the rest as the Belgian struggled to break into the top three.
It was a good day for Ford’s Gus Greensmith, who took his first-ever WRC stage win on the seventh stage. The British driver found himself 1.4 seconds faster than Ogier, as the British driver completed the stage in seven minutes and 31.9 seconds.
Despite Ogier’s best efforts, Loeb remained out in the lead of the standings by nearly 10 seconds. While, in the final podium spot, Evans was 22 seconds behind the nine-time champion.
